Research Colleges, Universities, and Technical/Vocational Schools:
~Universities are typically larger and have vast offerings in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Colleges typically are smaller and offer 2 year degrees, technical/vocational programs, and some also offer undergraduate and graduate programs.
~Vocational and technical programs are shorter programs that will prepare students for immediate employment.

SENIOR HOMEROOM: You are required to attend a monthly virtual senior homeroom with Ms. JoAnna Marino. These 30 minutes Zoom meetings will be packed with information about graduation, college and career readiness, and important deadlines for senior year. Next senior homeroom Zoom session is Monday,September 25th at 11:30 am. It will include a guest speaker from Seminole State College.

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES- MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Schedule a senior credit check with your SCVS Counselor. Students are required to participate, and parents are encouraged to attend these in person or virtual meetings.
October
Application for the State of Florida scholarships (including Bright Futures) opens on October 1st. Start your application at https://www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org It is YOUR responsibility to apply and check the requirements that include GPA, test scores, and volunteer service/paid work hours.

If you are planning on attending a 4 year university (Ex: UCF, FSU, UF) it is recommended that you do so by November 1st. Application deadlines vary by school. Check each university’s website for details. It is suggested to apply to 4-7 colleges.
December
It is recommended that SAT and ACT testing should be completed by seniors this month.

If grades decline or final transcripts do not match the list of courses you indicated on your application for college, they can rescind your admission acceptance!
Follow deadlines!
o Virtual courses need to be completed by May 1st!!!
o Community Service/Paid work hours paperwork for Bright Futures Scholarship needs to be submitted by May 1st to your SCVS Counselor!
Check your school email through the CLEVER portal- Office 365- at least two times a week
